The structural repair map, often kept as a dent and buckle chart, summarizes every known repair and allowable damage on the airframe, and each entry implies a documented story: damage found, disposition decided, repair performed, and any repeat-inspection obligation recorded. This review follows sampled map entries into the scanned archive to confirm that story exists in readable images, including the damage report, the SRM reference or engineering approval, the accomplishment record, and the inspection recurrence where one applies. It is run for records control during archive-quality programs, and it returns a per-entry support verdict with recovery priorities.

The problem

Structural repair documentation is graphical, and graphics survive scanning worst. A repair dossier's value sits in sketches with dimensions, fastener callouts, and datum references, which grayscale compression can blur past usability. Meanwhile the map itself abstracts each repair to a line and a location code, so the chart can look immaculate while the dossiers behind a third of its entries are missing pages, missing approvals, or missing entirely from the digital set.

What is at stake

During surveys, physical repairs that the documented map cannot explain, or mapped repairs the airframe evidence cannot dimension, become open items that stall acceptance, and structural open items are the slowest category to close.

Jurisdiction-specific considerations

Discovering it is not, since this review works from the map into the records rather than from the airframe. Once a survey identifies an unmapped repair, the same source-review method is applied in reverse: searching the archive for any dossier that could explain it, which often locates paperwork filed under an unrelated check.
