Certification Testing
Section 10: Environmental Qualification (DO-160)
Definition
Testing performed to demonstrate compliance with applicable airworthiness regulations and technical standards, the results of which are submitted to the certification authority as part of the type certificate, supplemental type certificate, or technical standard order authorization data package. Certification testing may include functional testing, performance testing, environmental testing, and safety-related testing.
Where This Shows Up
While environmental qualification testing per DO-160 forms a major component of certification testing, certification testing also encompasses functional compliance tests, software verification tests observed by the authority, and any special condition tests required by the certification basis. The certification authority may witness selected tests or require that testing be performed at an approved facility. Test plans and results must be documented in accordance with the certification authority's data requirements.
